Factor XI, human (frozen)
Description
Precursor of the serine protease Factor XIa. The zymogen Factor XI is purified from fresh frozen plasma that is stabilized by added inhibitors. The plasma is first treated with BaCl2 to remove the vitamin K-dependent proteins, and Factor XI is then isolated by affinity chromatography. A final chromatography step on heparin sepharose yields a homogeneous preparation of intact Factor XI.
Preparation
The protein was purified from human plasma that was tested and found negative by FDA accepted methods for Hepatitis B Surface Antigen (HBsAg), Hepatitis C Virus (HCV) and Human Immuno-deficiency Virus Type 1 and Type 2 (HIV-1, HIV-2).
As no known test method can provide complete assurance that products derived from human blood will not transmit HBsAg, HCV, HIV-1, HIV-2 or other blood-borne pathogens, this reagent should be handled as recommended for any potentially infectious human specimen.
Molecular Weight
160 kDa. Extinction Coefficient (1%) = 13.4
Purity
Free of other coagulation factors and degraded forms of factor XI/XIa. Estimated to be 99% protease, based on SDS-PAGE analysis and activity studies.
Specific Activity
The activity has been determined by Factor XI clotting assay. One unit is equivalent to the Factor XI activity in one milliliter of normal plasma. See vial label for lot-specific activity.
Presentation
1 vial containing 50 μg of protein in 50% vol/vol glycerol/water solution. See vial label for lot-specific concentration.
Storage
Store at -20°C.
