Factor XIII, human, recombinant (frozen)

Description
Human Factor XIII (fibrin stabilizing factor) is a tetramer (A₂B₂) composed of 2 identical A subunits and 2 identical B subunits. The whole molecule has a molecular weight of 320 kDa (A subunit = 75 kDa; B subunit = 88 kDa). Thrombin cleaves a 4 kDa peptide from the NH₂-terminal of the light chain, exposing the active site sulfhydryl.

Caution
The source plasma for this product was tested prior to initiation of the manufacturing process, and was found negative or nonreactive for anti-HIV-112, HIV-1 antigen(s), HBsAg, STS, anti-HCV, anti-HBcore and anti-HTLV I & II. Extreme caution should be used when handling this material as there is a margin of error in all tests, and testing does not always disclose pathogens or other harmful substances contained in blood plasma products.

Specific Activity
Specific activity is given in U/mg. One unit is equal to the Factor XIII activity in one milliliter of human normal plasma. See vial label for lot-specific activity.
